"Tragedy at Maha Kumbh Mela: Stampede Leaves 7 Dead, 10 Injured in Uttar Pradesh"


 At least seven people have died and 10 others have been injured in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The tragic incident occurred late at night on January 28, 2025, when a massive crowd gathered for a ritual bath.


What Happened?


Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, held every 12 years, attracting millions of devotees from India, Nepal, and other countries. This year, an estimated 14.8 crore (148 million) devotees are attending the event.

According to officials, the stampede occurred due to overcrowding as thousands rushed towards the Sangam (confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers) to perform their holy dip. The sudden surge of the crowd led to chaos, resulting in multiple people being trampled.
