104 Indian Immigrants Deported from the U.S. Return to Punjab

 Amritsar, India (February 2025):

A group of 104 Indian nationals who were living illegally in the United States have been deported and returned to Punjab’s Amritsar. The deportation marks one of the largest repatriation operations involving Indian nationals in recent months.

The individuals, mostly from Punjab and neighboring regions, were detained in the U.S. for violating immigration laws. After completing necessary formalities, they were flown back and handed over to local authorities at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar.

Reasons Behind the Deportation

According to immigration officials, many of these individuals had entered the U.S. using unauthorized routes, while some had overstayed their visas. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched a crackdown on illegal immigrants as part of its ongoing efforts to address immigration violations.

Local authorities in Punjab have begun the process of verifying the identities of the deported individuals and ensuring they receive necessary support upon their return.

Impact on Families and Local Communities

The deportation has caused distress among the families of the deported individuals. Many had invested significant amounts of money in seeking better opportunities abroad, only to face detention and forced return.

Experts believe this incident highlights the growing challenge of illegal migration from India to Western countries. Local officials have urged citizens to avoid unauthorized channels for migration and seek legal routes instead.

Government Response and Future Plans

The Indian government has reaffirmed its commitment to assisting deported citizens and reintegrating them into society. Authorities have also launched awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the risks of illegal migration.
