The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit back at the Congress, saying that the party is only making empty promises.

Congress to contest all 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, AAP hits back

The Congress has decided to contest all 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi in the next year's general election, party leader Alka Lamba said on Wednesday.

Lamba's announcement drew a sharp reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has been seeking an alliance with the Congress in Delhi.

AAP chief national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said that if the Congress is not willing to form an alliance, then there is no point in attending the next meeting of the INDIA alliance.

Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the AAP's central leadership will decide whether or not to attend the next meeting.

AAP leader Somnath Bharti said that everyone should keep their ambitions aside and think about the country and the Constitution.

The Congress and the AAP have been at loggerheads recently over the Centre's Delhi Services Bill. The AAP had demanded that the Congress clarify its stand on the ordinance as a condition for attending the INDIA alliance meeting.

Later, the Congress backed the AAP in Parliament over the services bill, but could not stop the bill from being passed and getting presidential assent.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the Congress and the AAP failed to reach an agreement on seat sharing and contested the election separately. The Congress won only 0 seats, while the AAP won 7 seats.

It remains to be seen whether the Congress and the AAP will be able to form an alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
